ATHENS, Ga. -- With legendary running back Herschel Walker and 92,745 others in attendance, Georgia had a chance to redeem its 38-35 loss to Clemson to open the 2013 season. It got a Walker-like effort out of junior Todd Gurley, plus a stout defensive performance, as the Bulldogs trounced the Tigers 45-21.

Georgia made the decision to conserve Gurley’s strength on a blazing hot day that reached 92 degrees (with over 80-percent humidity). He had just four offensive touches in the first half, as Mark Richt rationed Gurley’s carries like batteries during a zombie apocalypse. Gurley made the most of his chances, though, encapsulated by a bruising 19-yard run midway through the third quarter in which he broke one tackle, shook another defender off and dragged a third would-be tackler five yards.
The footprint is growing. In its biggest deal yet, ESPN has agreed to terms with Comcast Cable to carry the SEC Network. That means it will be available to 46 million households nationwide when the network launches Aug. 14.
So far Comcast (20 million subscribers), Dish Network (14 million), Cox Communications (6 million), AT&T U-verse (5.7 million) and Google Fiber have signed on to carry SEC Network.
DirecTV (20 million) and Time Warner Cable (11 million) are still in discussions but do not have deals done.

Comcast offers cable throughout Kentucky, though not in Louisville in Lexington, where Time Warner Cable is the provider.
According to Sports Business Journal, the channel's rate card is at $1.40 per subscriber per month within the SEC's 11-state footprint and $0.25 per month outside of it. .

As part of its agreement with ESPN, Comcast will also make SEC Network available on its digital platforms, including the Xfinity TV Go app and website, WatchESPN and SECNetwork.com, with the ability to watch the network live and on-demand any time on any device.
"We are extremely pleased to have reached this agreement with ESPN to deliver the SEC Network to Xfinity TV customers on multiple platforms," Comcast executive Matt Strauss said in a news release. "Whether in the home or on the go, Xfinity TV customers will be able to watch their favorite Southeastern Conference teams in more ways than ever before."
By Jerry Hinnen | College Football Writer

Another Georgia defender is facing a suspension following a reported offseason arrest.
Bulldog redshirt freshman linebacker Davin Bellamy was arrested at approximately 5 a.m. Saturday morning and charged with DUI and speeding, Dawgs247.com reported. According to Athens-Clark County police records, he was released at 6:22 a.m. after having posted a $2,000 bond. The charges are misdemeanors.

Bellamy faces a minimum mandatory two-game suspension, per Georgia athletics policy.
A four-star strongside defensive end in the class of 2013, Bellamy was not projected into the Bulldogs' starting lineup but was expected to contribute at outside linebacker

The SEC dominated the second half of the BCS era, winning seven consecutive national titles between 2007-2013, and there is no reason to expect a drop-off in the first year of the College Football Playoff.

Just look at the talent it's securing. In 2013, five of the top nine and six of the top 11 recruiting classes in the country came from the SEC, per the 247Sports team rankings. In 2014, half of the league's 14 members landed a top-nine national class. It's a fact, not a myth, that the SEC has the best athletes in the country. Recruiting rankings are fallible, but on the whole they have been proven to matter.
Still, how the conference will fare in the four-team playoff has been a subject of constant debate this offseason.

How many teams will the SEC get into the national semifinal? Two? Three? Zero?!
With so much roster turnover—especially at quarterback, where four of the five media favorites to win the conference are breaking in a new starter—along with the annual concern of teams "beating up on one another," how will the SEC fare in year one of the CFP experiment?
Who has the best chance of breaking through?

Preseason college football ratings have historically been far less scientific than even the polls. But that doesn't have to be the case. This spring, ESPN Stats & Information created an automated set of preseason ratings for all FBS teams heading into the 2014 season, designed to predict how strong each team will be this coming season. This is essentially a preseason version of the Football Power Index (FPI) used last year.

Dawgs Win In Overtime!

Any road victory in the SEC is a good victory. Beating Tennessee on the road is a good win. When you consider you had to play the game without your two best running backs (Gurley and Marshall) and without three of your top four receivers (Bennett, Scott-Wesley, Mitchell) it makes the win unbelievable.

Then take into account with all of those players down the Bulldogs needed to drive 75 yards with less than two minutes left to score a TD to force the game into overtime? IMPOSSIBLE. But Aaron Murray led the Bulldog down the field and then Marshall Morgan hit the game winning field goal in overtime. Georgia escaped...barely.
But even after that victory you can't help but think that the season may be lost. Marshall and Scott-Wesley are definitely done for the season.

The news might possibly be a little better for Michael Bennett but he is likely not going to play at least for a couple weeks. Regardless of whether or not Bennett plays any more this season the Bulldogs are definitely now without 4 of their top 6 playmakers on offense for the rest of the season. Plain and simple it was a devastating victory.

Georgia Pulls It Out!!

ATHENS, Ga. -- In its third game against a top-10 team, the No. 9 Georgia football team won a 44-41 shootout with No. 6 LSU in front of a sellout crowd of 92,746 and a nationally televised CBS audience at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Sept. 28. Georgia improves to 3-1 on the year and 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference, while LSU falls to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the SEC.

Aaron Murray went 20-for-34 for 298 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to the win. Chris Conley was his top target, picking up 112 yards and a touchdown on five catches. Justin Scott-Wesley added 55 yards and a touchdown on four catches. Michael Bennett finished with 38 yards and two touchdowns.

Keith Marshall led Georgia's ground game, rushing for 96 yards on 20 carries. Todd Gurley finished with eight carries for 73 yards, while J.J. Green added 18 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Marshall Morgan connected on four extra points and was 2-for-2 in field goals, including a career-best 55-yarder.

ATHENS, Ga. — Throughout his career, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray has been criticized for his performances in the biggest games. But with the No. 12-ranked Bulldogs' defense flailing and their season on the line, Murray's ability to improvise under pressure lifted them to a 41-30 victory against No. 6 South Carolina.
BOX SCORE: Bulldogs 41, Gamecocks 30

HIGHLIGHTS: How the top 25 teams fared Saturday
With the Gamecocks threatening to steal momentum and quiet a nervous crowd at Sanford Stadium, Murray avoided pressure on two key third-down plays and found open receivers for touchdowns.

Ogletree’s 15 tackles is the most by a Bulldog this season. Robinson also had 13 tackles and defensive lineman John Jenkins added 11 tackles. But Ogletree was the star as many of his were worthy of making highlight reels. “Tree (Ogletree) is a really good player,” Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said. “When you get a linebacker like that against that kind of offense (option) and you can get him in the alley, there’s really no answers. Once we kind of got a feel for what they were doing, I think we pretty much shut them down.”

Alabama was supposed to be the best team in the country. Then Oregon and Kansas State got all the hype. Now it's Notre Dame looking down at everyone else. Plodding along quietly, barely noticed, is one other team that has a prime spot in the national championship race. The Georgia Bulldogs.

Coach Mark Richt's squad moved up to No. 3 in The Associated Press poll on Sunday and the same spot in the BCS standings. That leaves only three teams in control of their own destiny: top-ranked Notre Dame, second-ranked Alabama and Georgia. The Bulldogs need to beat Georgia Tech in the regular-season finale, then Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game to earn a shot at the big prize in Miami.
Richt is keenly aware of the hoopla that suddenly surrounds his team, so much so that he steadfastly refused to even address the national race on his weekly teleconference. Mile High Dawghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16120653021125125701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7161910776939699972.post-80178760865896760822012-11-15T13:16:00.000-07:002012-11-15T13:16:31.462-07:00Georgia Bulldogs SEC East Champs Again!!

The Dawgs are headed back to Atlanta again and in search of an SEC Trophy once again. It has taken a few years to get that trophy but I think this will be our Year to beat Alabama and head to the Glory Bowl.

If we take care of Business could there be a National Championship looming? Perhaps and even a chance at the Sugar Bowl or Fiesta if Lucky enough. We need to take care of Business First by beating GSU, Ga Tech than focus on Alabama!!
No. 5 Georgia (8-1, 6-1 SEC) at Auburn (2-7, 0-6 SEC)
Kickoff: Saturday, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Spread: Georgia by 15.5
Watchability: Georgia sometimes plays down to its opposition (see: Kentucky, Tennessee). Will that tendency resurface with the SEC East at stake? Gator fans hope so, as an Auburn upset sends Florida to the SEC Championship Game.
“To have an opportunity to go back to the Dome and win an SEC championship, it's right there at the tips of our fingers,” Georgia wideout Tavarres King told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We've just got to go get it.”
Georgia forced nine turnovers in beating Florida and Ole Miss. Auburn true freshman quarterback Jonathan Wallace, who'll make his second start, might not be prepared for Georgia's speed after facing the WAC's worst team last week.

Shining stars: Georgia -- QB Aaron Murray. The SEC's Co-Offensive Player of the Week has 21 TD passes this season, 80 in his career. He leads all active SEC players in total offensive yards (8,873), completions (610), TD responsibility (90, which is tied for fifth in SEC history), and passing yards (8,646). But he just lost WR Marlon Brown (27 catches, 469 yards, 4 TDs) to a season-ending knee injury. Auburn -- RB Tre Mason. The 5-10, 198-pound sophomore averages 5.6 yards per carry and has run for five TDs in the past four games. Last week he broke out for a career-high 152 yards on 22 carries.

Who could steal the show: Georgia -- Malcolm Mitchell. The sophomore does it all. At wideout he's caught 26 passes for 358 yards and two scores. He's started three games at corner, and he's returned 11 kickoffs for 236 yards. For the season, Mitchell has spent 178 snaps on defense, 123 on special teams and 122 on offense. Auburn -- QB Wallace. The 6-2 freshman has hit 16 of 26 throws for 297 yards and three TDS, with one INT, and run for 115 yards. He's dangerous on designed keepers. After the offense floundered behind Kiehl Frazier and Clint Moseley, the Tigers have rallied around Wallace.
You going? Ranking the road trip: It's been a miserable season at Auburn, but Jordan-Hare Stadium will come alive for this 120-year-old rivalry.

This game has decided a conference or division title 20 times, with Georgia going 11-8-1 in those contests.
Magic number for Georgia: 5. A win would send Georgia to the SEC title game for the fifth time in coach Mark Richt's 12-year tenure.
Magic number for Auburn: 95. That's Auburn's national ranking in pass efficiency defense (141.6), which doesn't bode well against Murray. Auburn has one interception this season, by linebacker Daren Bates.

The game comes down to: The Bulldogs should be able to move the ball at will, even after losing their second key wideout for the year. Freshman Todd Gurley leads SEC running backs with 95.2 rushing yards per game. Auburn, which is minus-4 in turnover margin compared to Georgia's plus-9, must win the turnover battle to keep it close.
Prediction: Georgia 34, Auburn 20Mile High Dawghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16120653021125125701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7161910776939699972.post-52514098824842429622012-11-02T20:44:00.000-06:002012-11-02T20:44:05.272-06:00Georgia Bulldogs Attack The Florida Gators..No Crybaby's AllowedMile High Dawghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16120653021125125701noreply@blogger.com0
